The Razor Sharp
Edgemaking System consists of two compressed paper wheels that will fit on
any bench grinder. One wheel is coated with Silicon Carbide and is used to
develop a burr or wire-edge. The included Conditioning Grease (a special
formula of fats, oils and waxes) is applied to the grit wheel to lubricate
and control heat. The second wheel is slotted and, with the help of the
included jewelers rouge, is used to remove burrs and polish the edge. A
grit wheel will sharpen a couple hundred knives before it needs recoating.
Enough additional Silicon Carbide is provided with the kit to recoat the
grit wheel about 30 times. Complete instructions are included in
each kit.
Wheels are
available in 6",
8" or 10" diameters.
If you're using a
6" bench grinder you want the 8" Deluxe
kit. The reason for this
is that in order to sharpen a knife properly, you must have enough
clearance between the face of the wheel and the face of the motor to
accommodate the handle and your fingers. The 6" Deluxe kit works best
on a belt driven mandrel. The 10" Magnum kit comes in either
3/4" or 1" widths and we recommend using this kit on an 8"
or 10" grinder. For added versatility, these wheels have been
built to Oso Grande's specifications to fit grinders with either a
1/2" or 5/8" arbor.
