80NT: Chaos Tanto Trench Knife
Cold Steel

The troops serving in modern day battlefields are more heavily equipped than ever. Innovations in rigging and materials, coupled with many new wonderful gadgets and tools mean virtually every inch of real estate in a soldier's kit needs to be carefully considered. Our Chaos series fixed blades aim to fill some of that precious space with a truly impressive combat knife.

Taking inspiration from the classic "Trench Knives" from both World Wars of the last century, we have developed a tactical fixed blade that is suitable for today's modern day warriors.

The unique "D" ring guard is made from reinforced 6061 aluminum allowing for an incredibly secure and comfortable grip while protecting the hand both from incoming attack and damage while striking or cutting an opponent who's covered in body armor, ammo, flashlights, magazines and gear!

The thick 1055 carbon steel pommel is tapered for ferocious Punyo or Butt-Strikes, and the 7 1/2" SK-5 high carbon blade is available in either Double Edge or Tanto blade shapes. Additionally, the Chaos series is coated in black Tuff-Ex™, aiding corrosion resistance and enhancing cutting power by reducing friction.

They come complete with a tough Secure-Ex sheath, which features a belt loop for dependable, versatile carry.

Love it. This thing is well made, Razor Sharp and the handle feels great. I use it as part of my bug-out gear. I will be purchasing one of the double edge models next month.

First off if you would never consider buying a knife made in Taiwan you may stop reading now.
The Cold Steel Chaos is a combat knife made along the lines as the old WWI and WWII treach knives. Like most Cold Steel knives this knife is all business, all the way from the 6060 aluminum D guard to the 1055 carbon steel pommel. I have the SK-5 high carbon steel double edged blade; you can also get it in a tanto blade if you like. For me more cutting edges more possibilities in a combat setting.
If you are like me blade steels can be very confusing so what is SK-5 and is it any good?
The SK-5 high carbon steel blade is of the highest quality for making blades. It is the Japanese equivalent to American 1080. SK-5 high carbon steel gives a knife the ability to cut through practically anything and hold an edge while doing it. Also the chaos comes with a coated black Tuff-Ex blade that helps with corrosion, and reducing friction for a while, it comes off with use so keep the blade coated with a light coat of oil. Comes with a Secure-Ex sheath which gives the user many options for deployment.
So do I like it; sure for what it is, a straight up hand to hand combat trench knife, it will do the job well. Problems; it is large and heavy 17 oz. and it is pretty much a one trick pony, but hey I did not buy it for an all-purpose field tool I brought it for what it is. a BAD ASS 21st century trench knife, and one last thing try to beat the price for what you get, good luck with that.

Such a good knife, loving it for home use.

I have both these and the chaos is great for the cost. I have the double edge chaos too and both are a lot more agile and less bulky than they appear. I really hope they add a bowie to this great line up.

The Chaos tanto is a heavy style of knife, made for piercing the toughest armor, it is very thick right up until the point. I couldn't imagine the force you would need to snap this blade. It has a nice balance, and feels like an extension of your own arm even though it's heavy. Repeated actions will leave you tired however, so it's best to train so you develop those swinging muscles. Also, the handle of this knife is comfortable, the split does not encumber grip and allows you to use different grip styles. If you were to punch with this the guard alone could break bone easily, the pummel is deadly if used correctly. Overall this is knife is versatile, sharp, heavy and intimidating.

Have a modest collection of quality cold steel products. I added this baby to my 'grab-n-go' bag. Carried it a few different ways on person to get comfortable with it, a few unnecessary tests, and bam. Now I gotta buy another one. Thanks Oso Grande Knives

As always, Cold Steel produced a solid product. Good blade, very sharp and, as far as I can tell, very strong. I have purchased many Cold Steel products and so far I haven't been disappointed.

Another awesome knife by Cold Steel, this knife has the same blade as the Recon Tonto, you need to watch the videos on Cold Steels website to get the idea of the toughness and quality of the brand. You can't own just 1 Cold Steel! Best blade for your money.
