2217: Big Brother Fixed Blade Knife Leather w/ Serrated Top (9.37 in. Black)
The KA-BAR Big Brother Fixed Blade Knife is the perfectly named next step in the evolution of KA-BAR knives. The Big Brother is a significant step up from the standard sized KA-BAR. The 9.38" blade is made from 1095 Cro-Van Steel which is a very tough steel that will easily withstand even the most difficult cutting tasks and will still take and hold an extremely sharp edge. The noticably wider blade improves the overall handling of knife as well as adding weight that is beneficial when using the knife around camp. The most noticable addition-apart from the increased size is the addition of serrations along the spine of the blade. These serrations (NOT saw teeth) allow the knife to have a continuous plain working edge and still have the serrations along the backside to cut through tough, fibrous materials.

Absolutely what you expect. You want a big knife made by a well known manufacturer? This is a good choice. Razor sharp out of the box. Still love the classic Ka-bar, but this is a good upgrade.
The knife literally came hair shaving sharp right out of the box--Ka-Bar really knows how to put an edge on a blade. Since I got it I've put it through hell and it has held up like a champ. The leather grip on it is excellent (works good when your hands are sweaty or wet) and feels good in the hand. I use it for camping, backpacking and day hikes. It serves these purposes well and is also one of the most formidable combat blades on the planet should the need for self defense arise. The blade is sturdy and versatile and holds a good edge. Someone mentioned that the serrations on the spine would not saw--that is because they are not designed to be a saw--they are to cut fibrous material--if you are going to be sawing wood then you should get yourself a hand saw. This knife handles all my camping chores very well, including camp security and I recommend it highly.
This knife is big and sturdy. The blade is just plain awesome and it's thicker than a regular ka-bar. Comes very sharp and has a life time warranty. What else can I say - Buy it!
Where do I start? It's a Ka-Bar, it's a KABAR, it's THE KA-BAR ! Yes I love this weapon. It's BIG, but not so big that it can't be handled with finesse. It may take a little time but once you get it you got it. Makes you feel very confident. Only a pro will grab this from you and not bleed. Top serration is great--sharp under the coating. Only bad I see is batoning. I didn't buy this to cut wood anyway. Kraton handle. Leather sheath will break-in with time. Overall, a GREAT buy, It's a KA-BAR!
It's a great knife. I've used it for chopping, as well as whittling and a machete. The only thing that upset me is the serrated part on top. It's terrible for sawing and I have yet to find a purpose. Otherwise, with the length and everything it's the best knife I've owned so far!
