Cold Steel 58TLAK AK-47 (2010). In 1947 Mikhail Kalashnikov, the legendary Russian gun designer, created the AK-47 assault rifle. Eventually adopted by the Red Army in 1949, it became famous as the "People's Rifle". Such renown was well deserved, as it was an utterly reliable weapon. It was rugged, simple to operate and maintain, economical, and effective at reasonable ranges. This weapon, and all it represents became the inspiration for our heavy-duty tactical knives, the AK-47® folders. Designed by Andrew Demko, the AK-47®'s possess all of the attributes of their namesake, and perhaps a few more.

They're built for hard and rugged use and are available in two sizes. Both sizes have many features in common. For instance, both are equipped with G-10 handles that offer a vigorous grip that is remarkably tough, rigid and incomparably strong. Also, each size comes with a unique pommel made out of 6061 aluminum. The pommels feature a lanyard hole and can also serve as a "less than lethal" percussion tool in a self-defense situation.

Additionally, the hollow ground blades are honed by hand until they reach levels of sharpness only seen on a surgeon's scalpel. They're made from Japanese AUS 8A Stainless steel, then vacuum heat-treated and sub zero quenched for maximum toughness. The blades are coated with black Tuff-Ex for corrosion resistance and to enhance cutting power and to improve edge retention by reducing friction.

The blades are supported by our state of the art Tri-Ad® lock. In our testing, the Tri-Ad® has proved to be superior to any other lock on the market today in terms of overall strength and resistance to shock induced by blows on the spine (eclipsing virtually all locks in short order) or the even more devastating shock by over-strike that lands on the handle. Finally, to assure easy access, the AK-47®'s come with an ambidextrous pocket clip and our new patented thumb plate. The thumb plate has a dual purpose, it allows the knife to be drawn and quickly opened by snagging it on the edge of a pocket or it can be used like a conventional thumb stud or disc for easy, one-handed opening.

The Cold Steel AK-47 folding knife, designed by Andrew Demko, features a 3.5" clip point blade made of Japanese AUS 8A Sub Zero Quenched stainless steel, 4mm thick. The blade has a blood groove, black Teflon coating, AK-47 logo and patented thumb plate for ambidextrous one hand opening, as well as open on withdrawal. The textured G-10 handle measures 5.5" closed and has steel liners, an ambidextrous Ultra Lock, and a lanyard hole. A side to side reversible black metal pocket clip is mounted at the butt end. Overall length: 9". Weight: 5.5 ounces.

Amazing folder knife! cold steel never ceases to disappoint me, this is my number one choice for a small edc knife! the knifes handle is made of American g-10 and is very comfortable! the 'checkered' pattern has a very comforable grip with great traction! and the best part of that is that I have felt no 'hot spots' on it when holding the handle for lengthy periods of time. however the pocket clip and the handle have been known to really chew up your pockets, however it does because the clips are very tight! One thing I did to prevent this was remove the pocket clip and sand the area down, this really smoothed it out! as well the knife comes with a spare pocket clip and 3 screws. the hollow ground aus8 blade came razor sharp! and keeps a good edge for quite a great length of time and sharpens easily. The 'wave' feature of the knife works amazingly fast! the only complaints against the knife is that I wish the knife have steel liners nested in the g-10 handle, and I also wish the knife came in a larger version as well! the butt end has a glass breaker type pommel, which also has a nice lanyard hole drilled into it. the tri-ad lock is extremely strong! I work in a pizza restaurant, and out industrial can opener was broken for a few weeks, in that time I used this folder to open cans! the knife held up amazingly! yes the edge was a bit dulled, their were hardly any nicks in the edge and the only thing that wore off was the black coating on the blade when it was driven thru the cans! I give this knife, a solid 5/5!!! again the only thing that would make it better would be for the handle to have nested steel liners :)
