Fred Perrin is a Parisian custom knifemaker, a former French Army Commando and a world ranked martial artist. His Street Beat fixed-blade knife reflects all three influences. Handle and blade are roughly equal weight. Where they join is a deep finger choil doubling as a hand guard. This spot marks the location of a balance point, sometimes referred to as a sweet-spot, making the knife noticeably responsive in the hand.

Spyderco's Street Beat Lightweight is a long-overdue fusion of his time-tested Street Beat design and the state-of-the-art manufacturing efficiencies. The result is a remarkably lightweight, extremely concealable expression of the classic Street Beat design featuring an injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle. True to the original, it includes Perrin's distinctive index-finger groove that literally locks the user's hand to the handle when gripped firmly. The FRN handle is molded directly onto the tang of the VG10 stainless steel blade, which is full-flat ground to ensure an outstanding balance of edge geometry, cutting performance, and point strength. Optimized for use in tactical environments, the PlainEdge blade is cloaked in a low-profile black ceramic coating that eliminates its reflective signature.

The VG-10 clip point blade is double flat-ground with crosshatching called jimping on its spine that creates texture therefore tactile resistance against the skin of the hand and keeping the knife firmly in grip. There are two lanyard holes, a traditionally positioned handle lanyard and a small lanyard hole through the blade. Looping a thong or cord through the blade lanyard keeps your hand positioned forward on the handle even when swinging or chopping. The Street Beat Lightweight comes in a black Bolataron sheath with G-Clip multi-position belt fastener.
