From its huge imposing blade to its handsome rosewood handle, every inch of the Cold Steel Frontier Bowie screams perfection!
Almost sword-like in its cutting and thrusting performance, the Frontier Bowie features a wide, wickedly keen hand-sharpened blade with a generous clip and huge fuller (blood groove). Made from 1055 Carbon Steel, it has been heat treated to a hard spring temper and beautifully blued to a lustrous finish. Its blade is both long and stiff enough to oppose even much larger weapons, while wide and sharp enough to make the most of every opportunity to cut, thrust and deliver a palpable hit.
The Frontier Bowies handle is a perfect accompaniment to its battle-ready blade. It's big S shaped guard offers excellent hand protection while the slim, flat profile stops it from twisting in your hand and keeps your edge alignment true even in the heat of combat. It's modified pistol grip also keeps the knife locked safely in your hand even when utilizing a palm reinforced grip for extended reach and leverage in the thrust.
A high quality leather sheath with a blued steel throat and chape is included. It's swiveling leather belt frog is wide enough to accommodate even a thick military belt and fully detachable to allow you to slide the knife into your belt for traditional carry.
This versatile knife is suitable for historical re-enactment groups from the 1830's onwards, Cowboy Action Shooters, civil war re-enactors and even modern Military groups. This truly battle ready blade is ready for any adventure, so whatever your Frontier, make sure that you have a Cold Steel Frontier Bowie by your side!

Great Bowie. Can get a razor edge and the grip is strong and solid in the hand. Just a classic. A very good chopper and all around cutter as would be expected. High quality for the price. Highly recommend.
This is one of the best knives I've ever owned. The balance and handling is superb. Doing business with Oso Grande was a great experience. I highly recommend them.
Received today and I'm quite impressed. The blued blade is huge, sharp and looks great with the massive fuller. The handle looks great and feels good in my hand and I really like the thick s-shaped guard. Very good knife. My first from Cold Steel but certainly not my last. Kudos to Oso Grande for extremely fast processing/shipping.
I love the knife it is awesome,I got the Natchez bowie and the San Mai bowie. I love the cold steel products. I love the style of the Frontier Bowie. I hope to buy some more cold steel knives. I love the feel of this big blade in my hand. It will definitely be a collector knife for me.That black blade and the handle are amazing. Cold Steel Knives rock!!!
Nice Knife! Very robust knife, very nice scabbard. Very fast shipping.
Just got it and I and love it! Blade is extremely Sharp, with great bluing and a beautiful fuller and fantastic workmanship! However there are no marks or stamps on anything.
This is my favorite bowie out of my collection. It is build solid, looks beautiful, and was sharp out of the box. And the squared off handle keeps your grip from shifting and keeps your edge aligned in a cut. The only reason i am giving it 4 stars is I'm not a big fan of the scabbard i think the little metal pin that attaches the belt loop part onto the actual scabbard should be reversed (pin on the scabbard and slot on belt loop instead) so you could just tuck it into your belt instead of on the belt.
Big blade, nice blue finish, good spine thickness but not overly hefty. I like heavy knives but I also understand that a fighting knife shouldn't be too heavy. Decent sheath, wish it had an extra pocket for a sharpening stone or rod. 1095 is very tough steel which made it ideal for this type of knife. Overall I'm pleased with this blade.
The knife is absolutely gorgeous! You could use it as a show peace. It is just that good looking. If you intend to abuse it, the 0.25" tang and blade is extremely solid, practically a crowbar. The 1055 steel is very strong and based on the British Proof Test I'd say it has an excellent spring temper as well. I haven't found any noteworthy workmanship defects so far. I did notice that the hand guard is slightly cockeyed to the position of the blade, but I am unaware if this is not intentional as it does seem to offer more hand protection that way. I have read some reviews where people complained about the handle being blockish, and uncomfortable. I wouldn't say the handle is the most comfortable that I have ever held, but it is comfortable enough. I would say the handle is just adequate. As for the blackish look in the pictures, once you get it and look at it you'll see that its not an issue. In fact the rosewood looks amazing. Also the "V" shape at the end of the pistol grip handle would be very nasty if you used it to pommel an opponent. The point of balance is 2" from the hilt (Which is amazing considering the blade is 12.25" long). The blade did come amicably sharp. But I would recommend you resharpen it to improve it cutting ability. I have cut some small trees down with it and can say it chops pretty well. Not the best as it is a thick blade and the blade bevel is only about 0.73". The sheath is also an excellent peace of workmanship. I have just two complainants about it. First that there is no cut resistant insert in it to prevent the blade from cutting the leather. And Secant is that the frog is not metal clip reinforced. The leather frog that is on it was not sturdy enough to retain the sheath when I tried to wear the knife tucked in my belt. One nice feature on the sheath is the swiveling belt loop. It allows you to angle the sheath to an desired angle when drawing the knife. Ultimately for the price of $120 what you're getting is a whopping big bang for your buck knife.
I love my new Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie! This knife is a very functional work of art. And Osogrande knives has the best price online with fast shipping.
I love my new Cold Steel Frontier Bowie Knife! This knife is a very functional work of art.
This is a very impressive Bowie blade. The workmanship is fantastic. The blued blade was decently sharp. I will eventually sharpen it a bit more when I get time. The handle, and weight feel is very comfortable. I haven't yet put it to hard use and maybe never will. This can be a showpiece as well as a hard use blade. This is prototypical of a fighting Bowie for sure with the nice quillions (guards) and heft. Worth the price paid for sure. The handle is nice and grippy for rosewood. The sheath is very nice with the frog and blued chape. ( tip of the sheath). The 1055 steel on the blade should hold up well. For what its worth. The Osogrande price at 119 beats the heck out of the amazon price at 155. Get this blade now you won't be disappointed.
The Cold Steel Frontier Bowie is a really Big Knife with a footlong blade! Certainly not an EDC knife, but it will give you a thrill when you draw it out.
The blade is almost sword-like and I love the deep fuller and the stout feel of the 1/4" thick blade which, despite it's size is amazingly agile in hand. A tip of the hat to Oso Grande for getting this to me so quick!
