The name MIL-SPIE is an acronym that the DOD came up with several years ago. It stands for (Military-Special Projects Individual Equipment) Pronounced ‘MIL SPY’ This was to enable Special Operation Forces within the Military to help develop, test, evaluate and acquire "out of the ordinary" and "outside of normal channels" items that they require.

TOPS Knives is often approached by individual OPERATORS who advise us of their ideas and the criteria that needed to be met for their Unit or Team. The challenge was to develop a small knife with a fairly narrow carrying profile, it had to be strong and light in weight. With this criteria in mind TOPS Knives created and named the Mil-SPIE series of knives.

This folder is a combination of rugged good looks, lightweight, with a secure grip, great working blade, and sturdy clip attachment. The MIL-SPIE folder is based on the popular MIL-SPIE fixed blade knives. It's a thin, moderately lightweight folding knife that you can depend on. The black coated blade is Bohler N690Co stainless steel with a tanto blade and thumb stud opener. Skeletonized 6061-T6 aluminum handle with a black finish and natural finished bevel accents. The handle is outfitted with a tool steel liner lock and tip-up carry pocket clip.

All in all, a positive carry for a wide variety of tasks.
