Very double sided strop/slate combo is very well made. It produces an edge much better than the old fashioned cowhide/waxed canvas strops do. The extra fine slate is a necessity for achieving a very keen edge.

Whatever I use to sharpen knives and however sharp I get them, this Boker leather strop gets them sharper.

With a strop it's more like polishing the edge, getting rid of the microscopic imperfections, that get you a razor sharp edge. This is well suited for that purpose.

There is no skill involved; you can and should use a fair amount of pressure as you are pulling the knife and angle doesn't matter. However, it is *real* important that you pull the knife so the edge is dragging against the leather; if you do it the wrong way the edge will dig in.

One tip, this comes with a convenient handle and that should be used to carry this from place to place. When you are actually polishing a knife edge place the strop flat on a table. It makes the process a lot more effective and is safer too.

The leather strop side is okay, but isn't quite large enough for everyday stropping use. It takes slow strokes and concentration when using it. When stropping it is easily nicked. I am not sure what the handle would be used for in practicality it is almost unsafe to hold at the same time. I have been unable to find the grit for the reverse side or whether or not its a wet stone. Paying a little more for a nice double-sided 4000/8000 grit wet stone and a nice large strop is a better buy.
