A dual grit ceramic puck stone in our acclaimed Arctic Fox sapphire ceramic blend on one face with a coarser grey face for a one-two punch when field sharpening axes, machetes, and other tools. The grey medium face will rapidly erase scratch marks from a file, while the icy blue fine side will bring the edge to a hazy mirror finish that easily shaves. Readily absorbs and retains water, with a thin film on the surface to keep the pores of the stone free of metal fines. Cuts quickly, yet leaves a fine finish.

For years Ive been searching for the right progression in sharpening stones my axes. I love restoring vintage axes and I use them frequently splitting wood and felling trees. Ive tried all sorts of axe pucks over the years, but almost all of the others on the market are too coarse. Norton, lansky, GB, and I even made my own by cutting a bench stone I had. I just wasn%u2019t happy with any of them.

But this puck is great. In JIS standards is a about 400/700. The Blend of abrasives in this is really unique. For touching up an edge all you need is the white/fine side. You can remove small chips and bring back a dull edge very quickly with the coarse side. It%u2019s a fast cutting stone, it%u2019s hard, and slow wearing, doesn%u2019t dish quickly. Doesn%u2019t load up much at all. When it starts to I just dunk it back in the water and rub it with my finger and any metal particles will just rub off. I personally still like to finish on something s little finer, but it%u2019s not necessary. The fine side of this gives a hazy finish that%u2019s totally adaquate for most purposes, and it%u2019s shaving sharpe off the fine side of this stone. I made my own 1000/3000 from a cheap bench stone I had and I use that for finishing and bringing the edge up to a semi mirror polish followed by a strop with green compound.

All in all, baryonyx absolutely nailed it with this puck. For how hard wearing this thing is, I believe it will last forever. I might pick up a spare just in case though.
