CS90FH: Cold Steel Frontier Hawk Axe (22 Inch Handle) 90FH
Suitable for re-enactors from any period stretching from the French and Indian War clear up to the final settling of the West in the late 1800's. The authentic, good looking Frontier Hawk is one tough customer you're sure to appreciate.
This light weight Hawk is a joy to use too as it reduces wrist, elbow, and shoulder strain without sacrificing anything in chopping power or ease of handling. The merits of its light weight are revealed in combat too because the Frontier Hawk can be used at light speed from any angle and immediately recovered!
The Cold Steel Frontier Hawk tomahawk is Cold Steel's lightest and smallest tomahawk. It's head has a 6.0 inch hawk length and 3.25 inch primary edge made of drop forged 1055 Carbon Steel. It's cutting edge is differentially heat treated. The 22.0" handle is made of straight grained American hickory which is unsurpassed for absorbing the shock of hard chopping. Weight: 20.4 ounces.
These superb tomahawks are precision drop forged from 1055 carbon steel. Drop forging is, without doubt, the best method of manufacture for any impact weapon, particularly one with a cutting edge. During the forging process a metal ingot is heated almost white hot and then formed into shape in a series of progressive dies. The large steel dies are fixed to enormous compressed air hammers. Each die hammers the hot metal into a gradually more finished shape. The steel is kneaded and compressed into a completely homogeneous mass making the grain structure uniform and minimizing gas pockets or other imperfections that can ruin the construction of a hand forged hawk. This is why most good axes, hatchets and hammers are drop forged. These hawks are differentially heat treated. This means that the cutting edge and hammer face is fully hardened, while the balance is left relatively soft to absorb the shock of striking blows.

This tomahawk makes a great little hatchet. I mainly bought to use on our ranch. There is regular road maintenance required to keep branches from overtaking the road. I used it last weekend limbing up trees & bushes. Most branches would come off with one whack. The tomahawk is light so it doesn't wear you out. Carries great in the hammer loop of utility jeans. I did touch up the factory edge a little with a file to make it just a little sharper. And when we were done for the day, we had fun throwing it. Looking to get 2 more just to have for throwing during the down time of hunting season. Now my brother is getting some as well. Didn't like the lacquer over the cutting edge, took that off before I sharpened with a scotch brite pad. I would like to take the black off, polish it a little then add some gun bluing, but will probably just leave it.
Excellent shape and feel, quality handle and great price. All great but the "made in Taiwan" on the head.
Excellent balance, rough paint on blade but sharp. Great delivery time.
Love this tomahawk! I have used it like an ax all week chopping up roots and it has performed well. It still has a very sharp edge. I like using it better than an ax because it is light and I can use one hand. I'm going to buy another one. It's really good.
Really good throwing hawk if you put in an hour or so to do the mods (assuming you change the paint situation in addition to everything else)--can't beat the price.
Outstanding hawk for throwing. If you intend to actually use this tomahawk, good luck finding something better for the price. If you want it shaving sharp, put a shaving sharp edge on it yourself. I like to remove the set screw, fill the hole in the handle (that the screw creates) with wood glue or wood filler, and rasp/sand until the head sits higher on the handle. Then soak the handle, with the head on it (tight), for about 30 minutes in water. This will keep your hawk tight and ready for plenty of abuse, but I still keep extra handles on standby.
I love this tomahawk. It throws amazing. It splits wood and cuts branches. The weight is amazing light and the handle is made out of strong wood. It feels good in the hand and is a blast to throw.
This tomahawk is built well with a good solid wood handle. Not like the cheap ones that are for looks you can actually use these.
