C123CFPCL: Sage 5 Compression Lock Knife Carbon Fiber/G-10

Spyderco's Sage Series is a family of knives that showcases the innovative lock mechanisms that have helped define modern folding knife technology. The latest addition to this unique series is the Sage 5, which highlights Spyderco's own patented Compression Lock mechanism. This groundbreaking lock uses a split liner in one of the handle scales to engage an upward-facing ramp on the tang of the blade. There the liner is compressed between the blade ramp and the stop pin. In addition to being substantially stronger than an ordinary liner lock mechanism, the Compression Lock also allows the knife to be safely closed with only one hand without placing your fingers in the path of the edge.

Nestled within a stunning handle featuring peel-ply textured carbon fiber/G10 laminate scales, the Compression Lock is paired with a full-flat-ground leaf-shaped blade crafted from premium CPM S30V particle metallurgy stainless steel. The PlainEdge blade includes Spyderco's trademark Round Hole for quick, positive, one-handed opening with either hand. In that same spirit, the Sage 5's handle features a reversible deep-pocket wire clip that provides discreet left or right-side tip-up carry.

Spyderco donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Sage Series folder to the Alzheimer's Association, Colorado Chapter. This association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research.

This knife is perfect for EDC. It weighs nothing and rides low in pocket. There is more than enough blade for any light duty work. The blade came really sharp and the fit and finish are excellent. A must have.

I purchased this knife because I love my Sage 2 and I love the compression lock on my Para2. While this size and shape of this knife is nearly perfect IMO, I was a bit disappointed with the closing of the blade. The piece you press to release the compression lock on closing is a bit smaller than on the Para2 which puts more pressure on your finger which I find uncomfortable. After a day of opening and closing as I was getting used to it and breaking it in, my finger was sore the entire next day. Also, when I press it to release the lock, it catches a bit requiring even more pressure with my finger. The compression lock on this Sage is not nearly as comfortable as it is on my Para2. Overall I like the knife a lot and will carry it often. I think perhaps I was just a bit spoiled by how well the compression lock worked on the Para2.

Thanks for such great service before AND during the sale. Y'all had a great attitude when I was asking a dozen questions and although I know and respect that your time is money I never felt hurried. It was like I was your only customer. You have won me as a life long customer even if you're in CA ;) I've got to get going but I wanted to let you know that the folks I worked with were all great and a definite asset to the company. Treat them right, retain them, and the rest will just fall in place.
