About the Designer: Ed Martin of Martin Knives. Martin Knives is a family-owned company from Texas, consisting of Hank and Ed Martin. Newton Martin, who passed away in February of 2018 at the age of 47 from the consequences of leukemia, was not only an ingenious knifemaker with an extraordinarily wide range but also a very close friend of Boker. His friendly and open nature, with which he has always willingly supported even newcomers to the knife making scene, was one of his defining characteristics.

The cobalt-alloyed N690 by Bohler (not to be confused with the lower-grade N695) is a very reliable upper middle-grade steel that Boker uses in their Solingen factory for a wide variety of projects. The fine-grained N690, which ranks above 440C, offers convincing performance data in all areas. It is often sold as N690Co – the "Co" stands for cobalt and describes the exact same steel.
