Cold Steel has never been afraid to break with convention. That's why, when everyone else in the industry made the smallest, flimsiest, dainty little knives that they could, Cold Steel released a series of blades that could only be described as one thing - pocket swords!

The Cold Steel Espada was inspired by the classical Navaja knives of Spain but was utterly modern in both appearance and materials. These mega-folders took the market by storm! A design collaboration between custom knifemaker Andrew Demko and Cold Steel President Lynn C. Thompson, the Espadas are available in two sizes to suit both the bold and the boldest of individuals! Despite their imposing size, they are expertly designed to fit comfortably and discreetly in your pocket. You'll soon forget that you are carrying such a large and impressive blade. Equipped with the patented Demko Thumb Plate, the Large and Extra Large Espadas can be snagged on your pocket, opening the knife as you draw it - and opening in the blink of an eye! The Espada's beautiful blade is made from premium Japanese AUS10A stainless steel. The Espada is equipped with the patented Tri-Ad locking mechanism, proven to have amazing shock resistance and strength. In their own notoriously brutal product testing, the XL Espada was not only capable of holding 600lbs of free hanging weight, but they even used it to support a hanging engine block!

This knife from cold steel is super high quality and it has a monster of a blade. I applaud Cold Steel for not being politically correct in their production of this knife. The handle Is comfortable in hand and offers several griping methods. You can get a full grip on front of handle and a full grip on rear of the handle. This
monstrous bowie blade dwarfs all other folding knives and makes a full sized chef knife look like a miniature. The Triad lock is as always rock solid and snaps into place. The blade also catches your pocket and opens upon withdrawal in the same manner as the Emerson wave feature and several other Cold Steel models do.

This knife came razor sharp and I am sure the AUS10 blade steel will hold that edge just fine. If you have any of the other XL knives you need this blade as it makes the rest seem tiny.

First the pros%u2026this is a great knife. It%u2019s well balanced, very well made. Cold Steel touts the strength of the lock and rightly so. When it locks open, it%u2019s very secure. Opening is easy and very fast using the pocket %u201Chook%u201D. Instructions states not using it for chopping. I wouldn%u2019t, but if it %u201Caccidentally%u201D hit meat or bone, it wouldn%u2019t harm this serious slab of steel. It%u2019s very comfortable carrying in the pocket. Now the cons%u2026I would like it better if the blade were polished. My biggest complaint is it%u2019s a real problem to close. You need 30-40 pounds of pressure to press the button to release the lock. 40 pounds on a 3/16%u201D thick piece of steel is approaching painful. Overall, I like the blade and would buy again. I think I would purchase the more expensive Espada at twice the price. Keep in mind, it%u2019s legal in all 50 states to carry a blade 4%u201D and under. Espada is %u201Cslightly%u201D larger!

There have been some brazen Russians on youtube that tested the XL Espada in the woods. even chopping down trees. Until Spyderco suspends 720 pounds from their knives handles then when it comes to my life its going to be Cold Steel or nothing.

Craziest thing? This monster fits better in the pocket than some of the blades I have that weigh in at 30% of this thing's overall size and weight. The only thing keeping this from being an EDC is workplace policy, really.
