Gerber 22-41578 Gorge Folding Shovel. The Gorge Folding Shovel features a fast and smooth push-button collapsible handle and a glass-filled nylon shaft with rubberized overgrip. The spade folds back, revealing a textured head to be used as a hammer for pounding in tent stakes. The Gorge is lightweight and packable for back-country camping and hiking.

The Gerber Gorge Folding Shovel features a spade made of heat treated carbon steel, with a non reflective black finish, that measures 6" long by 4.5" wide. The glass filled nylon handle has a textured overmold for secure grip, a cross hatched square hammer area, an easy push button slide mechanism and a hanging hole. A black nylon drawstring storage bag is included. The Gerber Gorge Folding Shovel has an overall length of 15.75" extended, folds to 8.125", and weighs 28 ounces.

I purchased this shovel to carry on my mountain bike and use to build trails. It's light and compact and comes with a handy bag. The quality of shovel is great. I have used it a few months and the metal has not shown any signs of fatigue. You can set the shovel blade at a right angle to the handle to use as a pick. The handle length is a little short to get great leverage though. The handle extends and locks in place with a spring loaded button. You can also use the hammer to pound in tent stakes.
