Cold Steel Voyager Vaquero XL Tri-Ad Lock Folding Knife (5.5" AUS-10A Stonewash Plain Blade) Black Griv-Ex Handle 29AXV
The Cold Steel Voyagers are, ounce for ounce, one of the strongest folders on the market. And this is a fact, not an idle boast. Each knife features precision made parts with a stiff spring and the incomparable Tri-Ad lock mechanism which is arguably the strongest, most reliable, low maintenance lock in the world!
The thick, extra wide blades in each Voyager also put the competition to shame, as they are laser cut from Japanese AUS 10A Stainless Steel and precision ground to a thin edge for maximum shearing potential. This thin edge also allows us to hone the blades to astounding sharpness. Plus, the cutting surface is continuously curved along its entire length for the most efficient and effective slicing action possible. Additionally, because of their perfect heat treatment you'll find the sharpness really lasts a surprisingly long time.
If you like serrations, you'll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It features groups of very small, sharply pointed teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs so it will rip smoothly yet very aggressively through a wide variety of tough fibrous materials without snagging or hanging up.
The Voyager Series also offers all the other latest refinements in lock-back construction including lightning quick, one-handed opening, state of the art mechanical fasteners, massively oversized pivot pins that are fully adjustable and properly hardened, and dual stainless steel pocket clips for ambidextrous carry and deployment.
The Grivory handles feature 6061 heat treated aluminum liners for the utmost in strength and stiffness and are ergonomically designed to afford a wide array of grip options including the palm reinforced forward grip for which they are particularly well suited. Grivory is unparalleled as a handle material as it is considerably stronger than Zytel and, when deeply textured, offers a terrific non-slip grip. As an added bonus, it's impervious to moisture and won't crack, warp or shrink and remains remarkably resistant to abrasion or discoloration.
As tools these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.

The knife is terrifically well-built and engineered. The Tri-ad lock is very positive and free from play. Texturing on the grip is very positive and aggressive. The only minor downside is that you might have to remove the pocket clip and bend it outward so it doesnt cling to the pocket so tightly. It was adequately sharp out of the box, but I re-profile and power strop every knife I own to razor sharpness so out of the box sharpness is kind of irrelevant to me. The Vaquero recurve blade is unique in the market and handles and cuts quite well. (I also own the 3in)
If you want the biggest knife that will fit in a folding knife format, at a great price point, this is the one you want. If you wish to EDC it and your peers wont view you as a nut for carrying such a big folder, it will carry very comfortably. Its flatter and lighter than the Spartan and the flat grind sharpens really nicely. The 4in might be a better all-around compromise between defensive use and EDC, but the XL is a great knife for the price.
The blade locks up really tight without any movement. The quality of the steel is upgraded and comes to you scary sharp. I believe you could most definitely depend on this knife to defend yourself or any possible innocent victims of criminal violence.
The gripping options is a huge plus. You can choke up on the grip, grip it a little further back for some blade extension, or even grip it for downward stabs with the thumb creating a solid stop at the top of the handle.
Not exactly the type of knife you'd slip into the pocket of your go to meeting slacks but Oso Grande has a huge selection of other knives to choose from for that occasion.
All in all this is a knife I'm proud to own and feel very confident that it would provide everything I could ever need in the way of defending myself or others. It is a very wise purchase should you consider so.
I really appreciate you going the extra mile to help me out. EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Blessings to you as well.
